Deep purple-red colour. Fruit driven wine, with appealing red and black cherries flavours, black plums, hint of mint and cedar. On the palate it has a nice tannic texture that is full and round. Notes of vanilla and tobacco coming from French oak. Nice to drink now or to be laid down.
Wine Advocate The 2006 Amancaya is composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Malbec aged for 12 months in French oak, 25% new. It offers an attractive bouquet of cedar, tobacco, damp earth, black cherry, red currants, and black currants. Supple, forward, ripe, and tasty, it conceals enough tannin to evolve for 2-3 years and will drink well through 2016. It is an outstanding value. Score: 91. —Jay Miller, December 2007.Wine Enthusiast Amancaya, a blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, never fails to impress. This wine is rich and controlled but also alert and upright. It is juicy and succulent, with ripe blackberry and cassis at its base. Finishes tight and long, and sports a fine structure throughout. Score: 90. —Michael Schachner, December 01, 2007.
Wine Spectator Has the vivid raspberry and boysenberry fruit of Malbec, along with the fine-grained tannins and nice framing notes of cedar, coffee and loam that come from Cabernet Suvignon. The finish is long and focused. Drink now through 2008. Score: 89. —James Molesworth, November 30, 2007.
