The mild January promoted excellent colour and flavour development at quite low sugar levels. The resultant wines show excellent colour and perfume with excellent acid and tannin balance at a relatively low alcohol level.
The wine shows all the Langhorne Creek trademarks of wet ash, mint, charcoal, wet stones and grilled nuts . The palate takes off with cascading layers of mulberries and plums. This wine comes over a little dense and sweet but after a boatload of fruit and a little oak you are left with a mouthful of fresh fruity tannin. I liken this wine to across between our McLaren Vale and Clare Valley Shiraz and I feel this wine will reward with a few years in the cellar.
Wine Advocate From Langhorne Creek, the 2004 Shiraz Harry & Edward’s Garden exhibits an explosive perfume of melted road tar, camphor, blackberries, and cassis. It builds incrementally in the mouth, revealing layers of richness, full body, and silky tannin. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. Score: 92. —Robert Parker, October 2006.
Wine Spectator On the tart side, balanced with plush tannins around a core of cherry, licorice and smoky herb flavors, lingering impressively on the firm finish. Best from 2008 through 2015. 500 cases imported. Score: 90. —Harvey Steiman, February 28, 2006.
