This delicious wine draws its name from the old Barossa Vignerons word for vineyard. Three Gardens were chosen for their distinct Barossa style and complementary characteristics. The blend of Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvèdre shows good balance and intergrated structure. It has full, ripe fruit, supported by firm but fine tannins. The overall flavours are cherries and blackberries, with hints of cloves and cinnamon. Enjoy over the next five years or so.
Wine Spectator Supple and generous, a lithe mouthful of black pepper-scented blackberry, licorice and toasty oak flavors that mingle effortlessly through the long, well-mannered finish. Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Best from 2007 through 2014. Score: 91. —Harvey Steiman, October 15, 2006.Wine Advocate The best value here is the 2004 Three Gardens, a blend of 48% Shiraz, 42% Grenache, and 10% Mourvedre, all from 15- to 130-year-old vineyards, that spent 12 months in old hogsheads and a few small barrels. This dark ruby/purple-colored, Rhone-like Australian red exhibits earthy, spicy, peppery characteristics intermingled with candied raspberry, sweet cherry, and licorice notes. Medium to full-bodied with a layered, soft texture, it should be consumed over the next 2-3 years. Score: 89. —Robert Parker, October 15, 2005.
