Château Ste. Michelle Horse Heaven Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2005
This pure Sauvignon Blanc from our Horse Heaven Vineyard offers flavors of white grapefruit and lime with hints of fresh herbs. We used partial stainless steel fermentation to preserve the Sauvignon Blanc’s delicate varietal character and give this wine a crisp, vibrant fruit appeal. Wine Spectator Tangy and appealing for its deft balance of orange peel and green olive flavors, which linger gently on the finish. Drink now. Score: 88. —Harvey Steiman, May 31, 2007.Wine Enthusiast This is an excellent vintage in Washington, and Bob Bertheau has made a soft, smooth, well-crafted Sauvignon Blanc. Just a bit more than one-third was barrel fermented, and the blend is 100% varietal. It’s a fruity, polished effort with citrusy highlights, but I’d love to see the winemaker veer a bit more towards a Washington State-style that includes some sweet grassiness in the finish.
