Ceretto Barolo Bricco Rocche 2001
Delicate and harmonious in certain respects, and powerful and robust in others, this is a demanding, complex, elegant wine. Its grandeur shows through already just a few months after bottling, and gradually increases as the flowery aromas of its youth give way to ethereal spices, chocolate and truffle. Wine Enthusiast Shows great precision in its aromas and flavors, delivering ripe cherries, floral and herbal notes in a swirl of complexity that never seems muddled or cluttered. Medium-bodiedâ€â€?despite great intensity of flavor it never feels weighty or heavy. Finishes with dusty tannins, so although its approachable now, it should easily go 20 years. Score: 94. —Joe Czerwinski, March 01, 2006.Wine Spectator Extremely floral and pretty, with roses, light plums and light, fresh herb character. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a long, light spice and vanilla aftertaste. Lots of new wood. Best after 2008. Score: 93. —James Suckling, October 15, 2005. Wine Advocate The 100% new-oak aged 2001 Barolo Bricco Rocche was made from old vines yielding just 40 hectoliters per hectare. The nose is redolent of spices and menthol with notes of minerals and anise. On the palate it is very dense and long, although the wine remains dominated by the new oak and is tough to fully evaluate today. Once again I find this wine’s price to be out of line with its quality. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2023. Score: 90. —Antonio Galloni, October 2006. |
